Why cant you get region 2 format DVD with American TV shows?

Hiya there. I've never gone on one of these things before but i am getting really annoyed about the fact i cant get some American tv shows on region 2. I live in England and i really want to get a American tv show called 'Legend of the seeker' on DVD, but everywhere i look says that its only in region 1 and i know that i cant play it in that format. PLEASE HELP HERE! (p.s the DVD came out on october 13 2009 so it should be available...) thankyou
