How to Install a Car Radio in a 1994 Saab 9000

  The 1994 Saab 9000 came with a standard AM/ FM radio with cassette deck. Many Saab owners will elect to upgrade their stereo system with a more capable model. There are aftermarket stereos that fit into the stereo mounting dock of a 1994 Saab 9000 capable of playing compact discs, mp3 files and satellite radio. Removal of the factory stereo requires the use of specialized extraction tools. The DIN removal tools are available at aftermarket car audio retailers as well as audio and video electronics stores. Difficulty: Moderately Easy Things You'll Need 10 mm wrench DIN removal tools Wiring harness adapter Faceplate adapter Instructions Lift the Saab's hood and disconnect the negative battery cable from the negative battery terminal lead. Use the 10 mm wrench to loosen the bolt that holds the clamp of the cable onto the lead post. Insert the DIN removal tools into the holes on either side of the stereo face. The two holes on each side are vertically aligned and will receive the tools once they've been slightly squeezed together. Pull the tools away from each other while pulling the factory stereo from the dashboard. Pull the stereo far enough away from the dashboard to reach the wiring connections to the rear of the unit. Disconnect the wiring that is connected to the back of the stereo, by hand. There are connections for the antenna, the power supply and the speaker wires. Pull the speaker wires from the factory stereo by the plastic binder that groups the wires. Insert the faceplate adapter into the opening of the Saab stereo mounting dock. Feed the stereo wiring through the back of the faceplate adapter. Connect the Saab stereo wiring to the wiring harness adapter. Connect the wiring harness adapter leads to the aftermarket stereo. Slide the aftermarket stereo into the space provided by the faceplate adapter. Push the stereo into the faceplate adapter until the face of the stereo is level with the trim of the faceplate adapter. Place the negative battery cable clamp around the negative battery lead post. Tighten the clamp to the post using the 10 mm wrench.
