What to do if my dog has a swollen abdomen?

Can anyone tell me what is wrong with this Border Collie retaining water in abdomen no other symptoms ALL tests are negative dog is 3yrs old?

  • Answer:

Any chance he has eaten some high protein grass and developed an intestinal infection. Don't laugh. My King Charles Spaniel did just that and I stood on my head insisting it was just that while she ruled out everything else, finally gave in and treated him for the intestinal infection. Withing five days, the water retention went away but we kept him on the meds for nine months because if even one little bit of that infection lingered, it would have come back. She is thinking about writing a paper on it for putlication!!! He is fine now but needless to say the grass has been plowed under and is long gone. email me for for information. [email protected]
