How do you open the bonnet of a suzuki swift?

Hi when looking under the bonnet of your suzuki sj there is a cut out in what i think is the gearbox .which you can see what i think is the flywheel spinning .is there supposed to be a bung in there?

  • Answer:

    Yes, if you are talking about a hole maybe an inch in diameter on the "bell housing" that is right behind your engine, on the driver's side, you are right. (The transmission is actually further back than this.) If it's what I remember on mine, it's an access point that you can use to set your timing from marks on the flywheel in conjunction with a timing light. (Or you can do it off the crankshaft pulley on the front of the engine.) Originally there was a rubber plug there...but unless you intend to do some deep river crossings it probably isn't a big deal that it's missing. If it bothers you, stick some duct tape over it! (And yes, I DID do deep river crossings with my Samurai...but that was after rather extensive modifications, even so I would not recommend it unless you had a buddy with a tow strap ready, which I did. Doing a submerge-the-headlights crossing finally shut up my 4wheeling buddies who all drove 3/4 ton American pickups...after they saw me do river crossings they started defending the Samurai to others who made fun of it. :}
