Newton's first law states that every object will remain in a straight line unless a change in state by the action of an external force. Force is equal to the change in momentum. For a constant mass the force much equal mass times acceleration. Formula of F = m x a. Examples of this is the motion of an airplane when the pilot changes the speed, or a model rocket being launched up into the atmosphere. There are others, such as a ball falling through the atmosphere, or a kite when the wind changes.
