How do I move my taskbar?

How Do I Move the Windows Taskbar & Start Menus?

  • Answer:

Most computer users keep the Windows Taskbar and the Start button along the bottom of the desktop in its default position. While this works for many people, if you desire something different you can move the Windows Taskbar and the Start button to any edge of the desktop. You can also make the Taskbar wider or narrower if you wish. Difficulty: Easy Instructions Position your cursor in any unoccupied space in the Taskbar and right-click on it. Look at the window of options that appears and check to see if there is a check mark to the left of "Lock the Taskbar." If a check mark exists, click it once to remove it. Position your cursor on the Taskbar again and hold the left mouse button down while you drag it. You can move the Taskbar to any edge of the desktop. Let go of the mouse button when you are happy with the position of the Taskbar and Start button. Hover your mouse over the perimeter of the Taskbar until it becomes a double arrow. Pull the perimeter of the Taskbar out to make it wider if you desire, or move the perimeter back in to make it narrower. Tips & Warnings Tip: The Start menu button moves along with the Taskbar wherever you move it.
