Standard Oil started as an Ohio partnership between John D. Rockefeller, his brother William, Henry Flagler, Samuel Andrews (chemist), and Stephen V. Harkness (silent partner), and Oliver Burr Jennings (who had married Rockefeller's wife. Standard Oil was incorporated into Ohio in 1870.
