Is it better to have Facebook app fans or Facebook page fans?

    As Chad said, functionality should be the same.  If you have a large, app, though, you should DEFINITELY have them fan your App Page in that it provides a "go to app" button front and center on the page.  This way, you can re-engage users thorugh the Page more effectively than you would otherwise.

There should be no functionality missing. There are cases where functions seem to be missing, but are there in reality if you hack the URL with your app_id. If there is a more specific feature you notice is missing, just comment and I'll check into it.

Use app page when you are promoting an app. You have the CTA (call-to-action) for installing the application as Daniel mentioned. Publishing and all other features are the same, and on the App page template you also have a reviews tab. Plus, you can drive traffic to your app page, just as you would a standard fan page. Fan pages are harder to convert app installs especially with the removal of default tab for those under 10k fans (i.e. u will no longer be able send users by default to promotional tabs). I've been looking into this today and it does seem that the App page has less functionality. For example, I can browse FB as a Fan page but not as an App. Also, I can see how many people have liked a fan page, but not how many have liked an app page. Are there workarounds for these, or settings to make the app page work more like a fan page?
