Is it worth to drop and go to old IITs top stream as a reserved candidate or join ip colleges like MAIT or BVP or MSIT as general candidate?

I have got rank in ipu under 4k and in jee advance 12k (both as general category) ... Should I appear as a reserved candidate(as I have certficate but didnt use it this time as I have heard life at IITs become hard after using quota) or join ip colleges?? Please share your experience and views and tell what would you do if you were me.. as it is a very big and important decision for me.

Answer:
It is totally worth it if you have confidence to do better next year. And regarding quota, in India life isn't hard for you reserved people dude, You are born lucky. Myself being a general citizen of this biased country, I would not recommend you to take seat of another deserving general student, but think practically and take decision. All the Best !

I wonder from where you got this thing into your head that life becomes tough for reserved category students. It's more or less the same for most of the students except for the few really bright and dull ones. An entrance exam is one thing while regular studies for your graduation is another, as you will soon come to know. Life at IITs and other colleges you mentioned are quite different, so I would recommend you getting into an IIT. It would be better for your career, irrespective of how you perform in academics. I hope this answer your query and if not, feel free to ask.

Whether to use reserved category certificate for entrance exams is really your personal choice based on your principles etc. However once you get into any institute, e.g. IIT in this case, it is going to be an open competition with everyone out there. There is really no difference between open and reserved candidates once in an IIT either way. The only thing you need to make sure for yourself is that it should not bother you (either using the reserved category certificate to get into IIT in case you do in next attempt(s) or not getting into IIT since you did not use it) going forward. I have seen very successful personalities from IIT where they entered under reserved category. You should look at IIT only as a privileged opportunity you got in your life / career, if at all anything. Since you did not use the reservation category this time, it seems that you must have some reservation about using it. What I would recommend at this time is to get into good ip college with discipline of your liking / choice. Re appear for JEE under reserved category next time. You can decide next year what you want to do then depending on what rank you get then, options that are available to you that time for IITs, how you do in your college / discipline over the next year etc.

Life becomes hard in a sense if one can not cope up with the academics. Now its up to you weather you think you can handle the stress or not.

First thing I would like to mention is that: Nothing like this happens that your life's gonna be difficult in IIT if you are using reserved quota. It is only you who is going to make you life difficult or enjoyable. If you are not going to study here (IIT) your life will be harder although if you are from general category. If You have a good power of using your category quota, then you must use that. Nothing will happen that 'your life will be difficult' or something like this shit. It all depends on you. You have something make proper use of it. Next thing about Drop is: I have met a lot of students those who repeated. Most of them didn't get much. Only few were there for whom dropping a year was fruitful. Moreover for that one year your life will be hell (It's not my personal experience, it's what my friends, who repeated and even succeeded, told me about their experience). So personally I will not suggest you to drop. Han if you are desperate to get into IIT and you are gonna do anything for that, if you have that much dedication, determination and devotion then only you should opt for a drop. P.S: I don't know much about ip colleges. So I didn't mentioned about them. But I will suggest you that better go in these institutions or via JEE Mains but don't compromise with you branch, like you take any random branch just to be in IIT.

It all depends on how bad you want to have IIT besides your name. The only thing in IIT is "will you be able to handle pressure?" take time to think about it. As long as you are ready to work 25hrs a day and 8 days a week, you can do good in IIT. It's all how you start if you get good GPA in your first few semesters the fact that you are a reserved candidate will not matter to you or to anyone around you. But if you start badly then you will try to find reasons like reservation. Being from a similar background , I can tell its all about how you start . Now coming to your question If you think IIT will be hard for you take a good stream in other top college's , do good in your stream . You have Four years, have passion for what you study, always try to solve a problem in more than one way once you have enough grip on what you study, try to do research in your field and publish some good papers . This kind of attitude will take you to great heights once you finish . Never settle for a B.E alone ..try to do a M.E(India) or M.S(India or abroad). And last but not the least Undergrad is the whr you make a lot of friends who will stay with you for the rest of the time. After all everyone of you will start the carrier from the same point . You will be doing a lot of crazy things all along the way which you will cherish for the rest of the life. Don't miss these things by going for a tougher choice .Choosing IIT ...not choosing IIT isn't going to make a difference if you want to be true engineer. Given your situation I will take a top stream in a good college and do good in it .(That's what I did 6 years back and now I'm back to M.E in IISc after securing a top GATE rank ). This is just my opinion.

Thanks for the A2A. Please be confident in life, it is one trait that takes people far ahead. Being confident is a balance of being overconfident and humble. Oh, there is a thin line separating overconfidence and arrogance. I think it is cool to be overconfident as long it stays in your head. When it reflects in your tongue, that is arrogance. Join IIT, believe in yourself. Work hard, don't buckle under peer pressure. Don't let yourself or your family down.
