Do you think if a product is great it will sell itself?

Can you think of any case studies in a highly competitive B2C landscape where suppliers sell a homogenous product (i.e. tech shops with iMacs) where rather than increasing marketing for the product, the company has increased market share through sales, promotions, and brand-awareness successfully?

  • Answer:

Asked to answer: This depends on what you mean by marketing. There are many different definitions of this word but all of them include promotions, brand awareness campaigns and other actions aimed at increasing market share. If you clarify the details I will edit this reply to add appropriate case studies.

Nope. It's a case of get big, get niche or get out. The big players suck up all the business in highly competitive commodity markets like tech. If you're a small business you got to look for the niches or better still innovate and create something new. All the winners from auto parts, books, cooking...got early mover advantage or scale. Most small businesses trying to sell stuff as a reseller are faced with unbearable PPC costs and forced to retire. I've marketing models that allow you to calculate your strategy and chance of success. P.M. me if you need more.
