How do I switch between two monitors?

What kind of a switch/adapter do I need to power two monitors with a MacBook Pro?

  • This is the kind of setup I want. How do I use 2 external monitors with a May 2010 MacBook Pro? Picture source -- http://www.skrenta.com/images/bryn-keith-desktop.jpg

  • Answer:

Matrox DualHead2Go.  The DP edition is best, with a mini dp to dp adapter from the Mac, and DP inputs on each monitor, running up to 1920x1200@60.  It is about $220. The Mac will see it was one combined display of the combined resolution. An alternative is USB display adapters, but they kind of suck, or an express card video card if you have a mbp17.
