Should I pursue a degree in computer science for software engineering?

I am a mechanical engineering graduate from a top NIT but I work in a software firm. I would like to pursue a master's degree in computer science. How can I go about it?

  • I found computer science to be more interesting during my computational science projects. I am now a trainee at a software firm. I don't have any projects in CS but I do have good projects and an international publication in computational science. I am looking for an research internship which will serve to give me a direction and help me build my resume for a Masters' application. How can I go about it?

  • Answer:

It will vary, university to university. I would suggest asking the universities that you are interested in what you must do. Some may allow you to enter as a non-matriculating student and then change your status after your have shown proficiency in the program. Others may require remedial courses. Still others may admit one with no strings attached.

The procedure is the same for students of any field! So you have to give your GRE,TOEFL/IELTS (in case of U.S) . And once you are done with it,u can apply for the universities you like in your area of interest. So in the Statement of Purpose, you will have to state that you want to change the field and give strong reasons that support your decision and in case you have done something in that area, you can add the information. If the universities find your reason genuine, you have equal chances to bag the seat like any CS grad of the same qualification would have! :)
