What is the role of grammar in Communicative Language Teaching?

-
Answer:
I would say : the bolts that hold together the scaffolding around the four walls of language building. Grammar in small doses (bolts are small) is essential for putting together the building blocs of language learning . It is best to extract it from an authentic contextualized situation that has been introduced previously to make it more digestible. If students can work out the rules and patterns by themselves with some prompts so much the better. The aim is communication and language creativity so practical exercises must follow immediately.
