How to send Mobile Email Using ExactTarget SOAP API?

Is it OK to use the Twitter direct messages as a direct communication channel instead of email?

Let's say I have a web site, with no registration form. The site lets the user to connect (register) using either, his/her Twitter account or his/her Facebook account. Twitter does not provide a way to ask the user for his/her email address (Facebook does), so: Is it OK to send DM to the user via the api? I mean is it a good practice?
Answer:

Since the only way a business can send a DM to another user is if that user follows the business, I think it's fine. As long as there is no trickery or deception going on, using the DM feature like anyone else is perfectly acceptable.

I think it's fine, but it's really going to come down the user's individual preferences. The best way to handle this is to provide notification options and let the user choose whether they want to be contacted via DMs or not. I should note that out of all the Twitter apps that I've authorized (30+), I've only seen one of them contact me via DM.

It is fine and I use it intensely. It's like SMS, but it doesn't replace email. As I wrote in another answer, you expect a reply faster than by email. It is also "trusted", since the person you are sending the DM to must be following you to receive it. I definitely encourage the usage of DM as a way to quickly send messages to contacts, very effective.

I would be extremely annoyed if a business sent me a Twitter DM that was not in response to a message that I sent or an issue that I tweeted about.
