How do i post my picture in a link?

I recently used Facebook's boost post feature to increase the number of people seeing a picture advertisement whose caption includes a link to a website. How can I tell how many times the link has been clicked?

  • Facebook's terminology is confusing. I see "post engagements" in the analytics view, but I am trying to figure out if people simply clicked the picture to enlarge it or clicked the link itself. The link is a http://bit.ly but I do not have a link tracker set up (cannot afford to do so).

    Facebook's boost feature will indicate the lift in engagement. It calculates how many times the image has been viewed/engaged due to the bump versus organically. Ideally you'd have used a separate link tracker like bitly as the destintion URL to back up what Facebook tells you.

When you boost a post, you get access to a new set of data either by clicking Insights -> Posts -> The boosted post or with the See Results button that appears when the promotion is finished. There's a number of stats in this report including "link clicks" which will give you the metric of outbound actions that you're looking for. Other responses like clicks on the photo will be broken out with their own labels to compare those against expectations / other promotions. Side note 1: Keep in mind that Facebook's benefit is not in creating direct results (i.e. ad to click to action) but rather fostering further interaction to influence eventual behavior. Don't be too narrow in your evaluation. Side note 2: Tracking a link does not require any expenditure. Google Analytics can do this for you with utm tags, even shortener services will record basic counts for you.
