Do you have these tv shows on your netflix?

Why is it that most daytime TV shows such as The Steve Harvey Show, Ellen, Wendy Williams, court TV shows and so on are unavailable on sites like Hulu and Netflix?

  • I hope someone knows the answer to this. It's been bugging me for years. With sites like Hulu and Netflix very popular, why is it that mostly primetime shows are available? I'd like to see daytime shows such as The Steve Harvey Show, Ellen, Wendy Williams, court TV shows and so on. What makes so many daytime TV show unavailable to sites like these? I'm stumped.

    SO. MANY. EPISODES. NO PLOT. Seriously, those shows have a TON of episodes, and their content comes from topical monologues, guest interviews, or in the case of the court tv shows, petty, civil legal disputes between (let's face it) idiots. Great viewing if you're doing housework, dozing off for the night, sick at home, or stoned/high and need something easy to watch. It has little to no artistic value, will be forgotten in 3 days, and is just filler until the local news, the national news, and primetime TV come on, which frankly is why people watch TV. Basically, it's a lack of interest. No one wants to watch Ellen's dancing or Dr. Phil's sob stories on Netflix. Netflix is an escape from life, not a reminder of it. At least to me.

Because (1) they're available free over the air, and (2) even though I suspect most don't HEAVILY cover day to day news, they are at least somewhat topical, and thus have a short shelf life.  Since the stations that air them indirectly pay for the shows' production, they wouldn't want part of their audience taken away by netflix. (I say that even though I have watched Letterman episodes from many months ago often..)

I emailed Hulu a few months ago about these exact shows. Just about a week ago Divorce Court showed up. I just received a follow up email months later saying there are more to come. So, I still don't know the reason but they're coming. It's no different than Late Night with Jimmy Fallon or Seth Meyers.
