What do I need to get into community college?

I'm currently in my senior year of high school. I need 100 hours of community service hours in order to get a certain scholarship for college. Currently, I do not have any hours done. What is the best way to get this accomplished?

  • Answer:

Community service means volunteer hours.  That is not a lot of hours. You can get in touch with local service clubs like Lions Club, Rotary Club  or maybe something associated with your church if you have one.  They usually have lots of projects going on that need volunteer hours. If you are into sports, get your level one coaching certificate and help coach younger kids for free.  Or become an umpire or linesman. Does peer tutoring count?  Your highschool may have a peer tutoring or English-as-a-second-language tutoring programs that could use your help. If not, even better!  You can start one. Hospitals always have volunteer programs.  If you have language skills you can help translate, or just hold a sick baby while the parents take a break.  Every little bit helps.  This would be great if you have a medical career in mind. Then there are the thrift stores that many organizations run to raise money.   Working in a thrift store is fun and you can shop for bargains at the same time.  Salvation Army, SPCA, Women's Shelters and so on.  It's also a great learning experience if you are going into Commerce or Marketing.
