Why does the earthquake depth change?

Did the earthquake in Japan change Earth's orbit?

  • I understand how rotation and axis tilt can be influenced by the earthquake in Japan.  But does that change influence our orbit? Annual cycle?

  • Answer:

In school today, my teacher told me that the earthquake in Japan didn't change Earth's orbit, but tilted its axis by a fraction of a degree and sped up the Earth's rotation by 1.8 microseconds.

Other answers

No earthquake will affect the Earth's orbit. There is no change in the amount of mass zooming around the sun. Changes in our orbit are mainly the result of Jupiter and Saturn tugging at us.
