What is the best software to generate and track QR/2D codes?
-
I would like the software to have the ability to: Generate codes that can be read by most mobile devices [including tablets] Generate dynamic codes so the information encrypted in the code can be changed or updated later Create multiple unique codes at the same time from a spreadsheet. [pURLs] Track information from the scan of each code Allow organization of codes into projects/campaigns/etc I am looking for recommendations based on personal experience with a software program, app, website, etc.

Answer:
http://code.google.com/p/zxing/ The University of Bath Libraries are using this code library to dynamically generate QRCodes in their catalog. I've been watching with interest and it seems to be very stable.

I have not tried all QR Code Generators so I cannot comment which is the best but http://scanova.io/design-qr-code-generator.html?utm_source=quora&utm_medium=dforum&utm_campaign=scanova can do all of the points you have mentioned: Ensures high Scannability: Scanova uses error correction to ensure that high scannability is maintained even if your QR Code has a complicated design or has been damaged Generates Dynamic or Trackable QR Codes: You can edit the URLs or activate/deactivate the codes as per the requirements of your campaign. http://scanova.io/dynamic-qr-code.html?utm_source=quora&utm_medium=dforum&utm_campaign=scanova Batch (or bulk) Generation: You can share a spreadsheet of data to create QR Codes anywhere between 100-100,000. Scanova also provides a QR Code API in case you need to integrate it with your own application. http://scanova.io/bulk-qr-code-generator.html?utm_source=quora&utm_medium=dforum&utm_campaign=scanova Scan Tracking: You can track scans by date, city/country, device (mobile, tablet, PC, or bot), and device operating system (iOS, Android, etc.) in visually-appealing infographics. http://scanova.io/qr-code-tracking.html?utm_source=quora&utm_medium=dforum&utm_campaign=scanova. Campaign Management: You can organize your QR Codes by campaigns and get campaign-level analytics. You can also activate/deactivate entire campaigns with multiple QR Codes in a single-click In addition to the features above, Scanova provides the following: Designer QR Codes: You can personalize the design of your QR Codes to make them look visually-appealing and differentiate them from inventory management barcodes. http://scanova.io/custom-qr-code.html?utm_source=quora&utm_medium=dforum&utm_campaign=scanova. Multi-user Access: You can provide permission-based (view only, view and edit, admin) access to upto 20 users. This is very handy if you are managing campaigns for multiple clients Vector Export of Designer QR Codes: Very few generators can do this. If you want to put your designer QR Codes on large-sized print material then you need vector formats (SVG, EPS, PDF, or PS) of the QR Code images. http://scanova.io/qr-code-vector.html?utm_source=quora&utm_medium=dforum&utm_campaign=scanova. Scanova is a one-stop tool for all QR Code-related requirements. Here is a sample of the QR Code designs you can create with Scanova: (Full Disclosure: I am one of the Co-founders of the company).

TAGO (http://tagomobile.com) is a comprehensive online platform for Creating, Managing and Tracking 2D barcodes such as QR Code and Data Matrix. For more information and full features list see http://tagomobile.com/features 1. The codes generated by TAGO are none-proprietary so they can be scanned with any application available on the market. 2. As you may know, the benefit of having "trackable" codes other than the real-time analytics is that they can be dynamic, our system allows you to redirect the codes to a new function or URL at any time. So the same code can be used for various purposes, without having to reprint new materials. 3. You can generate multiple number of codes from a Text, CSV or XLS file. Batch downloading of all the codes is also available. 4. With TAGO you can create two types of codes, "trackable" (aka dynamic) and "non-trackable" where content is embedded. Each "trackable" code is linked to real-time analytics; detailing when and where it is scanned, how many scans it received (total and unique) and what device was used. Demographic information and geo-tracking may also be gathered. 5. The Folder feature allows you to manage and organize your codes in anyway you like. TAGO offers Free and Premium plans. To familiarize yourself and explore all the powerful features, there is a 30 Day Free Trial on all paid accounts.

The https://gtd.qryptal.com mobile landing page system can be integrated with an online Google Spreadsheet. It not only generates the pURLs & QR Codes but can also be used to update information on mobile pages. This is useful if you are going to have several (dozens to thousands) mobile pages accessible by pURLs, QR Codes, NFC tags, Mobile Ads etc serving related information. The system has features like analytics, projects (including providing external editor access etc) and other stuff expected by our customers (major brands, advertising agencies, print houses) doing mobile campaigns at scale. This post explains the spreadsheet integration: http://blog.qryptal.com/2012/09/bulk-database-integrated-qr-codes-with.html This Slideshare gives some more information: http://www.slideshare.net/Qryptal/qryptal-agency-plans-introduction

QR Artist (http://www.qrartist.net) is a great tool for generating and tracking QR codes. It has all the ability that you're looking for and some bonus features to make your QR-experience convenient and enjoyable. Scan-ability: the generator has a built-in scanner that automatically checks the code every time a change is made to the content or look of the code. If there's a chance that the code can't be scanned, a warning will pop-up with some easy ways to fix the problem. Typically any code that can be scanned with a smartphone will also be okay for a tablet. Dynamic QRs: it only takes a few clicks to change the content of the code without changing the look of it. Really handy for orgs with different events or printed materials that need to be linked to new digital content. Multiple unique QRs at the same time: you can create QRs in batches and simply upload the information you want and then turn that into unique QRs. Tracking information: See scan activity represented in easy-to-read visuals (graphs, maps, charts). You can see how many times a code has been scanned, where (city) and by what kind of device. Organization of codes: Using tags and folders, you can sort your codes by campaign or media to hone in on scan activity and compare different campaigns. What is really great about the QR Artist platform is that you can create artistic QR codes with colours, images, logos, and special shape effects. It's really useful for integrating branding or just jazzing up your print materials. With artistic QRs, its hard for people to ignore. It's free to try so visit http://qrartist.net sometime!

Their are two views on this. 1. use a CMS to generate and track. They can help you run reports, and stay organized. 2. use open source to generate and track with something open like google analytics.
