What is the best way to promote content on the web?

  • Hi, We have lot of content in our company and we want to find the best way to promote it on the web to gain visibility. We have different kind of content and we are looking for the suitable medium to promote each content. We have : Blog post Tech and marketing video talks Slides about tech, marketing, strategy, business matters White papers event reports We already use twitter and facebook to promote our blog post and event reports content. What are your recommendations to promote these contents ? Using link sharing sites ? Focus on Slideshare, twitter, facebook ? Thanks

    That is the million dollar question, isn't it? In order to answer it successfully, you've got to consider numerous communities and platforms (i.e. YouTube, Reddit, industry forums, and of course Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn), marketing and sales goals as they relate to SEO objectives, probable sales results you might generate with PPC and banner advertising or paid placement in emails, etc., and then you've got to make sure you're leveraging your existing network of vendors, suppliers, business partners, etc. to maximize your best content. Not to mention email marketing opportunities you may have sitting in your customer data files. Frankly, this question is far too broad to answer in this forum, but my attempt to answer it quickly would be: 1. Who is your target audience - who do you want to read/view your content? Find out where these people congregate online and then get your content in front of them. This could mean advertising, social media participation, reaching out to bloggers and journalists in your industry, etc. 2. What content is universally regarded as awesome? I'm not talking about sales materials that would put most people to sleep, or "corporate speak" materials that don't really say anything, but real honest-to-goodness useful content that clients, competitors, curious outsiders, etc. would find interesting. Use this awesome content to build links and raise awareness about your company, to establish your company's expertise, etc., by asking people who might be interested to check it out. If they like it - if it really is awesome - they're going to link to it, Tweet it out, share it on FB, etc. You can also ask business partners, vendors, suppliers, industry bloggers, etc. to link to this awesome content with confidence. 3. Once you have something that people appreciate, keep going back to that well. Take a well-regarded blog post and expand it into an ebook, or turn it into a video, a presentation on slideshare, an infographic etc. and squeeze every ounce of value out of it you can. Whatever you do, avoid the temptation to look at this process as a collection of tricks. Taking a holistic approach is going to be far more successful than a cookbook approach where you just throw a whole bunch of content against the wall and see what sticks.

There are multiple ways to promote your content on the web. In your case, you already used facebook and twitter for promotion. You can also use linkedin for blog posts. Linkedin is the best platform for sharing your business blogs and other content. First understand your niche and target audience so that you can share your content to the right people.
