How do you pay for college when studying abroad?

I am planning to study in the United States at a community college. However, my dad does not have much money and basically, I have to earn my own money for studying abroad. I have to pay around $20,000 for college. What are some tips to survive by myself?

You will probably need to take out student loans.  You could also try to work as residential advisor in one of the dorms if your college has on campus housing.  RAs often receive free or substantially reduced housing, and sometimes a stipend, and the work is not too onerous. Shop around for the lowest student loan interest rates and fees. Something else to consider--the U.S. is known for its higher education system, but it's not because of its community colleges, which often have very limited resources.  It's primarily because of its research universities. And the earnings boost from a 4 year degree seems to be much larger than the boost from a 2 year degree. You might want to consider applying to a broader range of institutions.  If you have good test scores and grades, many will offer scholarships and you may be able to go to a much better school for not much more than the cost of a community college.

I'm assuming you're international. Look at schools that cater to international students. There are many schools that are known to give aid based on merit even to international students.  Getting a loan isn't the easiest thing unless you have a US connection who will be your guaranter. Going to a community college means that when it's time for you to transfer to a 4 year college, you will have to pay in full for that as well. In the end, it's better to go to an accredited four year college which may not be a "big name" school, but where you will get a chance to interact with professors and get a lot of opportunities to develop yourself and get a bachelors. Well, I would say: Check with your senior international students and see how they managed to survive. Probably there are many other students like you have have gone through the same situation. I am not really for from which country are you, so that limits me from providing more insights on getting that amount from your own country.Check http://www.ivyties.com, a social network where you can connect with other international students and alumni, I guess the IvyTies community can help you out
