How strong is the sun gravitational pull?

As the Sun travels through the universe, how much mass is "mopped up" by its gravitational pull such as comets, asteroids, and space dust?

  • What happens to this debris inside the sun? Does this material add to or subtract from the suns' life?

  • Answer:

More mass is converted to energy by fusion than is "mopped up"  by gravitation. Hydrogen fusion causes a net loss of mass to the sun by way of energy produced and radiated away.
