How to run a commercial laundry?

What can I use instead of laundry detergent if I run out?

  • In a front-loading washing machine, for non-fussy laundry items like jeans and t-shirts.  I have a wide assortment of household chemicals in my inventory, including Washing Soda, Borax, Dishwasher Detergent, Vinegar, Baking Soda, and Epsom Salts. I know that I can`t use liquid soap because it will be too foamy.

  • Answer:

My expertise with cleaning is so limited that my answer should be taken with a rather large pinch of (epsom) salt... I suppose my answer will only be based on a theoretical viewpoint. That being said, I would probably not go with epsom salt (magnesium sulfate). It's not particularly oxidizing nor corrosive, so I think your luck with that one will be limited. Both washing soda (sodium carbonate) and baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) are basic salts and are frequently used for cleaning purposes, so I think these are your best bet. They can also be used together with Borax, which some say produces the best results.[1] ________________ http://www.ehow.com/about_5498702_borax-vs-washing-soda.html

You can use "homemade" laundry detergent. 1 cup borax + 1 cup washing soda + 2oz grated soap.   This can either be in powder form, or heated with water to a liquid form. If you want, you can put vinegar in the rinse cycle.  This is fine for all washing machines, including high efficiency.  If you need a little brightening power, include oxiclean. I have been using this and so far so great.
