What is the name for the strong, syncopated drum beat found in rock songs from the 1950s and 60s?

Every once in a while, something by the Ronettes or the Beach boys will come up on my pandora account (the station, however, if for the Mamas and the Papas), and for some reason I really like the drumming in the background. I know very little about drums and drumming, but this type seems to have gone out of favor. A good example of what I'm talking about is this song:

OK... I know that technically I'm not supposed to answer my own questions, but given that it's been almost a year since I asked it (with no answers), and that I just figured out what I was asking about, here's what it is. The sound I noticed is one of the hallmarks of the Wall of Sound, perfected by the Wrecking Crew at LA's Gold Star Studios in the early 1960s. It was created by using multitrack recording and recording the instrumentation in an echo chamber.
