Why do smartphones have so little memory?

Does one really need third party apps for memory management in Android/iOS smartphones?

• There are a lot of third party apps that guarantee improved performance by 'clearing out' all the background apps and other performance tweaks. But considering the fact that Android and iOS manage memory in a way that allows you to run any number of background apps without visible loss of performance, are these memory cleaner apps actually hindering performance in the guise of 'freeing' memory?

• Answer:

  Third party applications will pop up with the notification to clean the junk files and cache memory, apk files, to uninstall unused applications in a single window, which otherwise can be done from phone settings. When any application is updated, it's apk file is also stored in phone (which is of no use, unless you uninstall that app & again want to install without downloading it). Memory management app will remind you about these apk files and ask you to delete them. Memory management app doesn't do any miracle. It will just club all the settings of your phone in a single window. I am using Clean master, and quiet satisfied with that.
