How did you choose what career to pursue?

I have secured admission for MS in ECE at Georgia Tech and I want to specialize in MEMS and VLSI. What set of courses should I choose to pursue a career as an application engineer or product engineer or sales/marketing engineer?

  • Answer:

Solid state electronics/physics of nano scale devices, elementary and advanced quantum physics, vlsi design basics with good knowledge and hands-on on any spice simulator and  on cadence virtuoso tool, HDL languages such as VHDL and Verilog (preferred) together with experience on FPGA kits and use of tools like Xilinx or Altera Quartus and if possible synopsys design compiler. I could go on, but it depends where your interest lies : Devices or Design. How good were your basics in undergrad is also important.
