How can I stop my browser from redirecting?

The Wikipedia blackout is easy to bypass. You just need to stop before the actual blackout page is loaded. Is this intentional or is there a lack of ability to do a real blackout?

  • If I had to see any article on Wikipedia,  can google it, go to the Wikipedia page and then click stop loading page on my browser just before the page is completely loaded. This effectively stops from redirecting to the blackout message. Is this intentional?

  • Answer:

It's intentional. Wikipedia allowed for two "easy" ways to bypass the blackout: using the mobile site and disabling javascript in your browser: Is it still possible to access Wikipedia in any way? The Wikipedia community, as part of their request to the Wikimedia Foundation to carry out this protest, asked us to ensure that we make English Wikipedia accessible in some way during an emergency. The English Wikipedia will be accessible on mobile devices and smart phones. Because the protest message is powered by JavaScript, it's also possible to view Wikipedia by completely disabling JavaScript in your browser. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:SOPA_initiative/Learn_more
