    What kind of medical background? What is your job objective? http://Coursera.org has some great courses for free online taught by ivy league schools. You can also build up a great network by becoming involved in professional associations and groups in your area (and of course using LinkedIn), since obtaining a job many times is who you know, not what you know. You can also build leadership qualities by taking it a step further and becoming involved in the management or board of these groups. They're often looking for volunteers for this.

Sorry, but when I read your question my first thought was you should learn typesetting documents by using latex. It does not take too long to be able to type simple documents and it is incredibly superior to windows' word. However, there are 2 reasons why I immediately thought of it: 1. A new set of skills that you can put on your cv. 2. You can REALLY improve your cv by typing it in latex.
