Can you help us understand why people often make mistake of thinking that our social network is very much similar to Facebook while we know we are not?

Here's our social network- http://frendsdom.com The point of this question is to figure out why it looks to some people that it is very similar to Facebook? Is it because of text/content on the page? We have some other designs considerations as well- http://frendsdom1.azurewebsites.net/ http://dev.frendsdom.com Would the above ones too give the same sense. Please help us understand. Thanks a lot!

Answer:
Because FB is the 800-pound gorilla. EVERY social network using the word "friends" has to "anti-FB" to get their message across. Sorry, but that's the way any marketing-against-an-incumbent is. LI is FB for business people. G+ is FB for smart people who understand how the internet works. Pinterest makes you love people you don't know, and FB makes you hate people you do know. FB is the standard. Figure out how to start from there, and work out. FB is for people you know IRL. Frendsdom is for people you don't know yet.

Thanks for the A2A Deepak. As much as I could see, the website design is made keeping in mind the fact that it has to be 'different from Facebook.'. As much as that looks like something that could make it entirely different, it didn't. In fact it restricted the imagination to a certain point. I browsed a little and saw this. It's young and emerging You should not expect it to be like other insanely popular social networking website such as Facebook , Google+ etc both in terms of look and functionality. It's completely different and young. The sentence sums up what I said. You're trying too hard to make it look different. Forget Facebook for a while. Don't let people know you're even trying to compete with anything even remotely related. I particularly liked the idea of the level of like and how you plan to bring people from different regions together. The idea and the website have great potential. I'd suggested working on the theme a bit to make it unique and not just 'different from Facebook.'
