How much hypnosis is used in advertising?
-
I have a cursory knowledge of hypnosis and have thought i have heard some fairly direct hypnotic sounding inductions and embedded commands. Paul McKenna said in the class that he and Derren Brown went to for hypnosis in a class of 30-40 they were the only 2 not from advertising or PR. The key ad I am thinking of is a McDonalds radio ad and roughly follows: "as you are listening to this, you are thinking of saving money, your accountant thinks you are amazing," and a series of statements which are nonsensical but about you looking for a bargain (trans derivative search, confusion, embedded framing and commands) followed by the simple command "so you want to buy a delicious big Mac" it's been a while since I have heard it but it conformed to what sounded like a standard hypnotic suggestion format. (if anyone has heard the ads recently, feel free to clean up my question)

Answer:
It is important to remember there is a difference between hypnosis and suggestion. Not all suggestions are made in a hypnotic trance. Some like in advertising are suggestions made in the same way that a advertising poster makses suggestions. They are selling. Advertisers can say 'so you want to buy a delicious xyz', this is a suggestion but not made whilst the viewer is induced into a trance state. It's communication, multi layered, with embedded suggestions, all designed to appeal to our desires. We make suggestions to one another all the time, whether we are reading books, newspapers, or having dinner conversations. We may even at times speak in an authoritatrian way to our children, family, colleagues at work and at times in a permissive way and indirect way. Hypnotic suggestions are borne out of the beauty of language and the many wonderful and complext ways of conveying a message.

The simple answer to your question is that there is no hypnosis used in advertising. Hypnosis is a feeling and it is people who experience feelings not advertisements. Having said that let me elaborate. Hypnosis is a very natural feeling we all experience during our waking day. Whenever we operate on auto pilot or simply have our attention hijacked as when we watch TV. While in the state of hypnosis we are more susceptible to suggestions given to us. So rather than ask about how much hypnosis there is in adverts perhaps the question could be amended to ask if advertisers are taking advantage of the fact that TV induces hypnosis in its viewers. We are probably the last generation with a critical factor that is able to dismiss most of the suggestions given to us through TV advertisements and the reason for this being that we were not exposed to this kind of brain washing as children. Children nowadays are brought up on TV so the suggestions they are fed go straight to their subconscious because they never had the time to develop an effective critical factor and this is probably why it is becoming increasingly difficult to satisfy the cravings of modern day children for everything they are told they cannot do without. Here is a link to an article I published about Children and TV in HubPages - http://spiritwhisperer.hubpages.com/hub/Children-and-TV You might like to watch a video my wife and I made about hypnosis with psychotherapy so that you also appreciate the power of hypnosis to do good.

Hi ! This is Dawn Grant a well known https://dawngrant.com/ from United States. Since I am also a business owner so I have some experience of advertising for business. Today I am going to talk about hypnosis techniques used in advertising. Many advertising firms are hiring psychologists & hypnotists to help influence the ads they make. Are these effective, and is it possible over short periods of time for viewers to be affected by these ads? My answer is Yes! But the most important aspect of impact of hypnosis in advertising is to look at the time frame. To understand this first we have to understand the https://dawngrant.com/shop/?type=clay-shooting-productsImpact on the human mind. To me, Hypnosis can be defined as a state of detached awareness, is just that... a state of mind while Psychology is, as a whole, about reprogramming cognitive patterns over time. Hypnotic techniques simply help people a lot quicker because it helps lower brainwave resonance ever so slightly for the viewer during the length of the ad for the message to sink in a little deeper more quickly each time it is viewed. Hope you all get some informative in my answer. I will try to answer with more explanation in the future on other issues also regarding Hypnosis.
