What is the best college in Ahmedabad?

Would you suggest a guy (a native to Gujarat, studying Computer Science at some renowned engineering college in India) for settling down in either Ahmedabad or Gandhinagar rather than in any of the Indian IT hub cities?

  • I hail from Saurashtra region. So, neither Ahmedabad nor Gandhinagar is my home town city. But, there's a mother land connection, which restricts me to go beyond Gujarat. That might be very trivial factor for a normal person, but it plays an important role at my side. By the way, I know that I won't get good offer in either of those cities compared to that of in B'lore, Hyderabad or Pune. But, I want to know what future prospects there are for a Software Engineer specifically in those 2 cities. Placement season will start from next semester. Hence, it's crucial for me to take a final position regarding career and rest of my life. As a Gujarati, what would you suggest me? Your suggestions are welcome.

  • Answer:

I would have said that in this age of good air connectivity, almost any corner of India is close enough. I live in Bangalore and can get to my house in Lucknow in 5-6 hours. From Delhi, it would be overnight. So it is not that big a deal. However everyone has their own reasons and their own priorities. What I want to tell you is that remote working if increasingly acceptable in India. So while college campus offers will be exclusively for people who are willing to move to where the work is, that is not the whole picture. If you are good in what you do, and if you are willing to spend couple of years working towards being a efficient remote worker, the opportunities are plenty. So do not loose heart. I know of people who have adopted this lifestyle after moving back from USA and from cities like Bangalore. So you are not alone either. All the best.

I have been also from gujarat(surastra) and had studied from a well known engineering college there, What I feel personally is that if you really want to grow in this field you should come out of your comfort zone and to be there were you can have a broad view of IT field. Or you can think of starting your own IT business provided you are very good in whatever technology and you have enough contacts to get the work on that. To be at outside the comfort zone, would make you learn many things apart from the field regarding life also. At last it would still based on ur personal priorities. i.e. Family attachment , dependents on you , gf if any , personal preferences of region , food issues .
