How do i make a good youtube video with my camera?

Apart from a good video camera, what other equipment or softwares do I need in order to make a decent 'vloggable' YouTube video?

  • I want to be able to omit things like background noise. I am just starting off and thus what is an entry level software I can use (which is still good enough in providing ample editing options such as inserting pictures, music, animations etc in between the video)

  • Answer:

There are three things you really need to take care of to make your video quality presentable: Get plenty of light:  Modern video cameras will work at very low light levels but the quality of the image will be very poor. Make sure that you have plenty of light, that it doesn't cast ugly shadows or look unreal. Hold the camera steady: Always have your camera on a tripod unless you are shooting an action or horror scene. If you are using an iPhone or some other device that doesn't have a tripod attachment then make an improvised adapter. Move the microphone closer to you. As others have already said poor sound quality is the hallmark of amateur video. To improve the sound quality place the microphone closer to you mouth; never use a microphone mounted on the camera. This both captures your voice better and at the same time it minimizes the pickup of background noises and room echo. Use a head mic, lapel mic or anything that is close to your mouth. Today you don't need to worry about fancy equipment. At a pinch you can use the main camera on your iPhone. If you have a DSLR that will be even better. You also don't need expensive software and you can even use the iMovie app on your phone to do basic editing and to add music, titles, transitions and so on either Windows MovieMaker or iMovie are enough to get started. You can get free software that can do much more, but then you will be limited by your own skills and the time available. There is, for example, a free 3D computer-generated animation tool called Blender which can be used to create awesome animations, but this is not something you will learn to use just by frobbing the buttons.

Just about any software will let you add pictures, basic animation, etc. So I wouldn't worry too much about that. The best investment you can make to improve your overall video quality is in sound equipment. Absolutely nothing screams amateur like bad sound! Field recorders like the Zoom H4n are relatively cheap and should definitely do the trick.

Production Requirements: 1) A video camera + accessories (Can be iPhone/GoPro/Handycam) 2) Tripod 3) For in-door shooting, lighting arrangements (Just use of room lights and thermocol sheets may suffice the need) 4) If needed live voice recording, Neck mic or iPhone hidden in pocket 5) Of course, the script! Post-production requirements: 1) Video editing a) Story board formation b) Basic color corrections and trimming by cue points c) Video stabilization d) Video effects (if needed) e) Transition effects (If needed) 2) Voice dubbing 3) Re-recording with music and sound effects (This is the best place to find royalty-free music - http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/) For this level of editing, I use AVS video editor. That is, AVS video editor helps in all the 3 steps that I listed in Post-production.

You can do all of what you want using https://www.techsmith.com/camtasia.html.Camtasia has video editing, transitions, and noise reduction built in.It supports music, sound effects, photos and videos, and has an easy to use drag and drop interface, with standard video editing features.I currently use paid versions of Camtasia and http://flstudio.image-line.com/, which is a music production program, with powerful audio creation and editing features, along with free updates and an easy interface. In http://flstudio.image-line.com/ free edition, the only limitation is you can’t save your project files. But you can export them, and edit them in Camtasia. If you are recording your voice, a lapel mic is good. If you are recording from a DSLR, there is a wireless microphone kit called the http://www.rode.com/wireless/filmmaker you can get that has a broadcast quality microphone, transmitter, receiver and dead cat. http://www.rode.com/wireless/filmmaker.

You would wanna buy a good mic for a quality sound that cuts off the noises beacause vlogging is mostly about verbal presentation. So you don't want to ruin it using the inbuilt mic. You need a good content that would grab the viewers attention and they should feel like clicking the Subscribe button after watching your vlog. Another important thing would be proper lighting.  If you are planning to shoot indoor, you could arrange a 3 point lighting system (back light, key light and fill light) although this is mostly for photography.  You would need a tripod and a monopod(gorrila pod) with a ball head(optional) so that you could adjust your camera as you would like to. Premier pro would be a slap on software for video editing at all the stages because it's user friendly and quite simple to use. Remember, you don't need expensive equipments to shoot a video. All you would require is a decent interesting content and an interesting presentation. As Casey Neistat says, to gain subscriptions, follow this one rule: "JUST KEEP UPLOADING" and you are good to go. All the very best for your vlogging journey.
