What is an ideal candidate for weight loss surgery?

Patients of weight-loss surgery: Did you have to get plastic surgery to remove your excess skin or did it rebound naturally?

  • I saw regarding weight-loss surgery, asking Quora how long it takes to get from "obese" to a more "standard weight" after LapBand or similar. It was a good question with nice answers, but it got me thinking, "How in the heck would a person NOT require plastic surgery?" If you look at http://www.afterobesity.com/photo-gallery/details.cfm?ID=222&IMAGEID=515&StartRow=6 and examine the before photos, it seems like there is just such a large amount of excess skin.  Has anyone rapidly lost significant weight without requiring a body lift afterwards?

  • Answer:

Hi there.  I had plastic surgery on my stomach skin and arm 'batwings' after losing 225 lbs through gastric bypass.  I know someone that didn't exercise any more than I did, but their skin snapped back miles better than mine did, despite us both starting at a similar weight (in the 400's).  This person is also about ten years older than I am, so I suspect there is a strong genetic or physical component (she may have been eating better than me prior to surgery/her skin may have been in better shape overall) as to whether your skin will snap back.  Let me know if you have any other questions and I will do my best to answer.
