How to develop native android app?

How much should I plan to spend to hire someone to develop an iPhone/Android app that interacts with a database (both receives and inserts data)?

    It's not uncommon for a senior, experienced programmer or firm to charge $100-$150/hr for this type of work. If you were to hire someone full time, it will depend on your location, but essentially it's a senior engineering position. If you are cash strained, look at offering equity or finding a junior person who can get a proof of concept out the door.

The 2 previous answers were great advice.  With application development, I would highly recommend Michael's advice and work with a firm.  And, just coming off the development of a complex application that interacted with the database in the manner you are speaking (and also had two other platforms writing to the same db), the developers we used were between $100 - $150 per hour (third party firm) depending on what was being done. I agree with Khurram, looking at offshore companies I noticed that they charge a lot less than American companies. I think ideally you would want a company that is "Indian", but has its base of operations in the States. A company I found like that is softwaredevelopersinc

If you are open to considering hiring offshore firms , especially the one that focus on iPhone / Android Development; then you may end up paying between 20-35 $ an hour.
