How do college students find entry-level technical writing jobs?
-
My company would like to recruit these students :-) We post our job descriptions online and do some campus recruiting, but I have a feeling we could improve our online presence by posting ads wherever it is that college students these days find entry-level jobs.

Answer:
It's great to know that your company is interested in recruiting technical writing students and graduates. You don't specify where you are located. If you are in the United States, you should contact the Society for Technical Communication (http://www.stc.org) and find out if there's a professional chapter near you. Many colleges that run technical writing programs have their own STC Student Chapters. If you are outside the United States, contact the professional technical writing association for your country. For the United Kingdom, for example, that's the ISTC (http://www.istc.org.uk)

I found my job as a technical writer through Koru, a career accelerator for recent grads that has programs in Boston, Seattle, and San Francisco. If you're in one of those cities, you could try getting in touch with their outreach coordinator (http://www.joinkoru.com/for-employers). Before I did Koru, I spent a lot of time looking at jobs on AfterCollege (https://www.aftercollege.com/) and Simply Hired (http://www.simplyhired.com/). If you want to actively recruit qualified candidates instead of waiting for them to find you, any soon-to-be or recent grad worth their salt will be on LinkedIn. Try looking for people working for a student publicationâhey, at least they know how to write.

Besides the big job-posting sites like Monster, try Craigslist, local colleges, Twitter, and posting on LinkedIn. Those options are low-risk in that they cost little or no money to post.

The majority of students are finding jobs by online job listings, followed by personal connections and networking https://www.elance.com/q/millennial-contractor-survey.html
