Songs won't play on iPhone but will in iTunes...why?

Is there a setting that ensures that songs play in the correct order within any specific album on the iPhone/iPod?

• Whenever I play an album it insists on shuffling the songs within it and I can't find the setting to play in order.

  Click on any song within the album; while it's playing, there should be a little Shuffle symbol on the right.  You should make sure it's unclicked (white instead of blue); once it is, the songs should play in the correct order. (It can be deceiving because it's easy to assume that you only Shuffle by clicking Shuffle in the list view, not to mention that it's pretty easy to click the little icon by accident.)
