I want to learn business (startups, finance, marketing) but also how to make iOS apps. How should I spend my time after a full-time job becoming well-versed in business and iOS development?
-
I have a full-time corporate job but want to start my own business one day. I am also very interested in learning how to develop iOS apps and would love to learn that, as well. I do have good knowledge about programming. How can I spend my time after work (I also have some free time during work) efficiently to learn as much as I can about business and iOS development?

Answer:
Depending on the type of person you are, you might want to consider working for an hour or two before you go to work (when humans are usually most able to focus) as an option. Your question is a tough one though. What experience level do you have programming? Have you ever developed a larger project (meaning database design, back-end, front-end, APIs) or just smaller scripts? If I had to suggest a book, my brother and I really liked: Personal MBA by Josh Kaufman This is a great place to start...he does a great job with combining research from a plethora of sources. A "syntopical" overview of the things you'll come across eventually.

I highly recommend Stanford's iOS app development courses offered through itunesU. Great knowledge for learning how to create apps and the basics. http://online.stanford.edu/course/developing-ios7-apps-fall-2013 Another great website for learning iOS/business aspects is http://www.raywenderlich.com. I have used this website countless times.

i would start with picking one project idea and start learning what is needed to build that application. And follow the tangents when and where they come while you are programming. for business, got to MIT free classes and take up a few entrepreneur finance or basic finance and other business classes. For light reading on your down days, read as many startup related books as you can for fun. Lean startup series is great. I would suggest Business Model Generation for sure.
