Why isn't a new tab opened any longer?

Why, when I've opened another browser tab to read or answer a question in Quora, do I often find when I return to my initial tab that it has lost my place and gone to the top of the feed?

  • This is aggrovoking, because I might have been scrolling down in the original tab for an hour before stepping out, and I don't want to try to find my place there again.

  • Answer:

Aggrovoking! I agree. I only notice it when I open a link in the same tab, and then try to go back to the point in the original page. It's astonishingly annoying. I hadn't finished where I was, and since Quora also protects against middle-click to open-in-new-tab thing, it's doubly annoying. I hadn't finished reading where I was, and usually want to go back and  continue. Hello, Quora (product)? Quora (features)? Browsing? Bugs? Anyone there?
