How do I unrar a file?

How do I extract or unzip or unrar a password protected zip or rar file?

  • Answer:

Unless there were errors in the algorithm or the implementation of the encryption algorithm: You don't. There are of course the usual tools for password recovery you could use such as dictionary attacks, bruteforce and hybrid (i.e. dictionary attack combined with bruteforce). Also you could use a list with the 1000 or so most used passwords as your dictionary. However if the encryption was done using an up-to-date algorithm such as AES with a randomaly generated long password it will take you millions or even billions of years to crack it.

There's tool called "fcrackzip" available for both Linux and Windows. Search and download it! Read the instructions how to use it with different parameters. After installing this you have options to attack on your zip file, either choose brute force attack or dictionary attack.

Firstly, you need to know the password to extract protected file. If you forgot it (a.k.a you don't know it)  you can use some tools that help you scan the password. There are some software out there (both free and shareware) and also some online service which use very fast computer to scan the password, so you can get password quickly. You can search on google for: zip(rar) password recovery tool crack zip(rar) password zip(rar) cracker Cheers, Long Nguyen.

Since it is protected you need the password.Obviously you dont have the permission to access the file. I doubt that there is an alternative to that.
