Where can I find a job for a 14-year-old?

I need to get a job as soon as possible (by 2/7/2014) or I will be kicked out my house. Where can I find a job that pays a reasonable wage? I will even take PT work if it is available (20+ hr/week)

  • I worked in high tech for most of my career but can't seem to get a job in my chosen field no matter how hard I try. It has gotten to bad that I have been told that I need to find a job ASAP or move out of my current residence. I am hoping to make at least $20/hour but will take less if necessary. I live in Mountain View, CA and have a car so I can drive as far south as San Jose and am somewhat negotiable in terms of how far north. Please note: I am currently looking at listings on Craigslist and elsewhere. If anyone has any other pointers, please let me know.

February 7 gives you one week. I know of few hiring processes that will go faster than 2 to 4 weeks up to even  months, so your a bit late getting started. I suggest you look for jobs where there is fast turn-over.  One job that could pay reasonably well is an electrician or plumber helper.  You might be able to land this fairly quickly.  You don't need to be a trained electrician.  You are just a gofer and do very little electrical/plumbing work in the beginning.  Go to the construction site of a new apartment complex and look for the electrical/plumbing contractor truck or trailer.  Inquire about a job there.  If they are short handed you could get a job on the spot. Another quick job is at the local full service car wash.  They always need people to vacuum and dry.  Pay is not what you want, but you can walk in and have a job immediately if they are short of hands. Another option that you should seriously consider is moving to a region of the country that has less tech competition and lower cost of living.  Staying in Mountain View with no job or even $20/hour job is an unrealistic expectation.  Consider moving to Texas or something where there are tech sector jobs, but the cost of housing is one-fourth that of Mountain View CA. Time to get off of your ass!  Good luck!
