I am looking for a career change. My main areas of interest is content writing, SEO, blogging and social media. I don't have any genuine experience and have no idea where to start from. Any Ideas?

Answer:
When you say without genuine experience, I take it you mean you understand the general idea of these marketing principles but haven't actually done any work around it. If that's the case, I would suggest the following: 1. Take an organized course on seo and social media. Stanford continuing education has a marketing social media and seo course coming up this June and UCSC and UC Berkeley extension also has classes of the same kind. You can also try General Assembly or Udacity and they also have digital marketing classes as well. The idea of taking a class is two-fold: learn what is currently being done by startups/businesses and networking. You'll be surprised at some potential opportunities with your classmates. I was also a career changer and took a course at Stanford on the field I want to move in to, and there I met several job leads/hiring managers. 2. As a career changer, be ready to have some of your "unrelated" work experience (previous careers) taken down a notch. Don't be discouraged by people saying your 4 years or 8 years some place else isn't exactly useful to their company. That's ok, you can always go get a drink after. With most interviews, you'll be asked to explain why you're making this transition. The key is to build an authentic story around a: how your past experience relates to your target company/position (more importantly, how that can benefit the new company) and b: why you're making this change and what brought you to that target company (talk about why you like them and their products). Don't talk about the free food or other benefits. It's important to show you understand their business, products, and consumers by speaking intelligently about what makes their company and product unique, and their business model better than the others available in the market. Lastly, I salute you for the courage to make a career change. It's not an easy transition to make and not one that's easy to realize. You might have to ready yourself for several closed doors and disappearing HR people (those who speak enthusiastically to you at first but don't bother getting back after sometime), but hope you don't let that discourage you. Good luck and hope you make that transition smoothly!

Based to your interests you want to go in to Digital Marketing or Content Marketing. Luckily you can gain experience in those fields by yourself. I suggest you to create a blog (if you don't already have one) and build audience if that blog. Once you have a successful blog, you can proudly say that you have content management and community building skills.
