How To Install Apps On Samsung Galaxy Pop?

How is Samsung getting permission to install the Market and Google Apps on the WiFi Galaxy Tab and Galaxy Player when they don't have a 3G radio/GPS?

  • Answer:

Samsung is getting permission because they are really strongly affiliated with Google, and sell a lot of Android devices. Their stellar sales with the Galaxy S, as an example, have solidified them as strong hardware manufacturers, and as a result, Google are willing to be flexible. It becomes a numbers game. Android will win by numbers, by simply having the most handsets, at every available price point. Google knows this. And by putting Android on a cheaper iPad equivalent, they will get a huge boost of sales. Either that, or Samsung made an ultimatum. They decided they needed a WiFi-only tablet, and coerced Google into letting them have the market. After all, in Samsung's mind, an Android device without the Market is crippled.

If I'm not too mistaken, the latest version of Android allows non-cellular devices (e.g. Wi-Fi only) to access the Market. And as for the Galaxy Tab there is no Wi-Fi only model. Because of the 3G antenna the Tab has, it's granted access to the Market.

This is due to the fact that the Tab is essentially a GIANT smartphone.  As far as Google is concerned it isn't a tablet at all, there fore the Market is available to it.  The problem is that almost every app in the market was designed for a screen about half the size of the Tab.  So, most of the apps will look horribly, if they function at all.
