How do I access my Call History?

Can an iPhone application get access to the phone's call history?

  • For example, to create a game that rewarded players for making phone calls.

    Nope. You can get access to the address book, but not the call info. The best you could do would be to call into the phone app from your app, and record the number you were asking it to call. Then at least you'd know about calls initiated from your app, but I'm guessing that isn't as much as you'd like.

No.  For security reasons there's a very limited access between apps.  And app has to provide a URL mechanism for another app to get data.  Besides that, in a non-jailbroken phone, apps all live in a "sandbox" and are protected from other apps. As Ian says, there's explicit system access to the Address book, but that's a system resource and doesn't have call history.  And the user has to approve your app's access to the Contacts. Your application on a regular (non-jailbroken iPhone) will not be able to access the Phone app's call history data. On a jailbroken iPhone, all bets are off.  But then if you jailbreak your iPhone you're implicitly saying you don't care about security and privacy.
