Is there support for Unicoins in the StackExchange API?

What types of hosting plans/companies are good for API services that need to support 1000+ hits a second?

• We were surprised when a popular host (not going to name who)  for cloud applications charged $199/mo for 10TB of bandwidth + 1 Million visitors/month (which is a lot) ...BUT, somewhere in their fine print they said the plan was limited to 10 connections per second! And it was the same for their most expensive plans too.  Their competitors offered similar restrictions per second. Now, we want to run an API service that will need to potentially support 1000 hits per second since we have 1000 clients. Now, the actual API requests use only 5KB of bandwidth total so we don't need powerful servers, but there is no way we can run our business on only 10 connections/second. Are there any solutions to this? Why do the big app hosts limit connections to per/second? It's quite clear most medium to large sized apps would require possibly hundreds of hits per second...
