What are the best places I can visit in Vienna?

What are some of the best to places to visit and restaurants to eat at in Prague, Vienna, and Salzburg?

  • I am traveling to Czech Republic and Austria this summer.

  • Answer:

I haven't been to Austria, but I did spend two days at Prague. Some of the things I've done are mentioned in this answer. As for places to eat, there are plenty of small restaurants and coffee shops that have good food.

Prague - I loved Pivovarsky Klub. The food is simple, but authentic and delicious and there are soooooo many beers to choose from! I'd just ask for the special and go with that. It's probably made with beer and they'll suggest a great brew to go with it. My favorite experience was at a wine bar, http://veltlin.cz/. In terms of food, it was just cheese and selection of meats, but man is this place worth checking out. Completely off the beaten path. You won't find tourists there. Just locals and heaps of amazing wine from all over the place, including a great selection of Central European goodies. Going there was the highlight of my trip to Prague.

Vienna: http://www.plachutta.at/en/gasthaus_zur_oper/. Self-proclaimed best and most authentic Wiener Schnitzel and Tafelspitz in town. Slightly upper scale place. When ordering the Schnitzel remember to order the Preiselbeeren (Lingonberry) (unless of course you don't like it). Stockholm: My recommendations may perhaps be dated by a few years, but great places include: http://www.blaporten.com/ (wonderful lunch. Especially practical when you are visiting Vasa Museum or Skansen) http://www.bobonne.se/ Dramatens Restaurangen, right behind Dramaten (the theatre) http://www.tranan.se, Tränan, right by Odenplan. Somewhat a Stockholm institution. The cellar has been a student hangout since forever.
