What if we privatized sports bodies in India?
-
As we know, cricket is run by a privatized body, i.e. BCCI. What if we privatized other sports, too?

Answer:
You certainly can do that but you need to make it clear what end do you intend to achieve? If you think that that would make them more popular among the masses, that isn't true. The popularity of cricket in our country doesn't in anyway relates to the privatization of the BCCI. Remember the BCCI since its inception in 1928 when it replaced http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calcutta_Cricket_Club. Indian craze for cricket manifolded for the first time after the Indian cricket team surprizing and almost improbable but well deserved victory in 1983 world cup. We got many 'heroes' during that world cup which motivated everyone to be the next one. http://www.rediff.com/cricket/report/winning-1983-world-cup-win-gave-new-dimension-to-indian-cricket-kapil/20130625.htm http://www.thehindu.com/sport/that-night-june-25-1983/article1594835.ece http://www.hindu.com/thehindu/mag/2003/06/22/stories/2003062200620300.htm http://www.wisdenindia.com/cricket-article/1983-world-cup-win-pictures/67239Even Sachin attributes says this.. http://www.cricketcountry.com/videos/sachin-tendulkar-indias-1983-world-cup-win-changed-my-life-78616 If you are fed up of the corruption and mismanagement that occurs within the government controlled sport management organizations, BCCI isn't that fair as well. http://www.telegraphindia.com/1131001/jsp/sports/story_17411015.jsp#.U0UMtFNRJZI http://www.newsx.com/opinion/item/5655-bcci-and-its-flaring-controversies https://in.news.yahoo.com/bcci-indian-cricket-issue-transparency-101933800.html http://blogs.tribune.com.pk/story/20897/bcci-cannot-be-trusted-pcb-should-vote-against-the-big-three/ http://sports.ndtv.com/cricket/news/21357-icl-issue-bcci-threatens-players Just because cricket is the biggest sport in the country and over the time players have acquired god like stature here due to the sheer passion that the country has for the sport and the sportsmen, money flows like anything and young players are attracted towards this. Privatization can't instigate passion for any sport in the people. It is that which is lacking that has created such a big chasm between cricket and the second sport in this hierarchy.
