Are my ski boots too big?

Which ski boots are recommended for freeride/big mountain skiing?

  • I am an advanced skier, spend most of the time off piste, in the powder, on steep terrain, but I don't jump off cliffs, or spend any time in the park. I have the K2 Obsethed 2011, and love them, looking to replace my old boots with new ones and wondering what would be a good fit.

The best answer anyone can give is to recommend you go to a shop with a bootfitter and try out as many different pairs as possible- the only 'good' boots are the ones that are comfortable enough to ski in all day every day. Having said that, I'm also an aggressive leisure rider who enjoys steeps and big mountain powder, with the odd backcountry foray every now and then, and I recently got a pair of Dalbello Krypton Cross with ID liner. They only have 3 buckles, so as long as its <10% of your season are light and flexible enough to be used in the backcountry while touring (if you tour more often then I recommend an AT-specific boot); I find them very comfortable across all terrain and with the optional ID liner (costs extra) they're very warm, and are moulded to my feet perfectly without cuts, bruises or aches even after 6+ hours of doing laps around the resort. I'm very happy with them, but again; that's only because they fit MY feet, not necessarily yours.
