With the details given below, should I go into strategy and business development or finance and controlling?

I am 25 and I am just about to finish my B. Sc. in Business and Engineering. It is not a double degree. In some countries this field of study is also called Industrial Engineering or Systems Engineering. The course consisted of about 1/3 engineering subjects, 1/3 business subjects and 1/3 of mixed subjects such as IT, supply chain management. Because this field of study is very broad instead of deep, I sometimes feel I am actually not able to do anything and don't have special indepth skills. Up until now I thought I should focus on financial controlling. However, when looking for jobs, it is very difficult for me to find one in this field, because companies prefer business or even finance graduates for these positions. On the other hand I can find many strategy/business deveolpment (intern and entry) positions that require exactly my profile. - How does the daily work in the strategy/business development field look like? - What are positions that people usually strive to achieve when they work in strategy/business development? - What are the strength and skills I need for working in this field compared to the controlling fireld? - Would I be very disadvantaged in the daily work compared to the finance graduates or is it only marginal and i can easily make up for it? Thank you very much.

Answer:
This seems fairly easy, if you go by your nature and what kind of activities, problems and decisions - and people - you like most to work with. Very roughly and taken to its extremes: you either create/explore/sell products and find/attract/engage customers for more/new business, or, you manage/maintain/scrutinize/budget mostly ongoing existing business. Do you want to be (are you) a guy who primarily has a foot on the throttle, or one that has preference for a foot on the brake? Do you want to create a business case or do you think you would be better at evaluating a business case? Both styles will many times put you in the same room, discussing the same agenda, but one or the other group of people will tend to have power and shape the company and decisions accordingly.
