How to access the Twitter Streaming API from Python?

What source does fflick.com tap into for its Twitter content? Does fflick.com use a Twitter firehose stream?

  • Do they have access to a twitter firehose or do they use the same streaming api for access to all the tweets they collect?

  • Answer:

They are probably using the "filter" method of the standard Streaming API and providing a list of movie-related keywords via the track predicate. Consuming the firehose would likely be overkill and it's relatively easy to generate a list of movie titles (or actors/actresses) to key off of and pull down. The devil is in the details, though, with some movies that have generic names. A good example (heh) is "Devil" - http://fflick.com/movie/Devil - you can see that it looks like they try to find the name of the movie with associated keywords ("movie" or "film" or "watched") but it doesn't always quite work.
