I want to work abroad.

I have no experience and I want to work abroad. What should I do?

  • My name is Carlo, I'm 18 and I just finished the second level college of science. I am now supposed to choose a university because I did a non specializing school which didn't give me any peculiar skills. Indeed I self-learned (as an autodidact) to program in various programming language and I became competent in web development (I also did some jobs and I maintain my own site). I told that to say I am a quite clever and enterprising. For this reason I really don't want to stay in Italy and to work in Italy, (a dead country of dead people). Also, I don't want to go to to university because I won't bear five more years above books. I don't want to be skilled to make many moneys. I'm looking for a modest life.I just ask for a job which allows me to feel something new, to make new experiences. At the end of July I'm going in Iceland with my family for a week, and I'm learning icelandic in the hope to have my own revelation there. Even though my mind is under confusion (What will my future be?), I tried to explain my question: "How can I go and work abroad? Which are your advice for my future?" Ad: If you want to hire me as a utility man, I will accept immediatly :)

    Many countries will accept foreigners in their military and may even offer citizenship at the end of your tour of duty. It is mostly unskilled work but they will train you in a trade if you show skill and interest and you could learn skills such as electrical or computer skills paid for while you are in the service amongst many others. Often service members also receive some kind of post service benefits such as college degrees, bonuses, medical care or retirement packages  as well. For 5-10 years of your life you can get citizenship, a trade and benefits that will be life long. With no specific skills it is hard to immigrate to another country permanently but  one skill anyone can have is the rare and brave skill of being willing to lay down your life for a country. It is still highly valued and sought after. Even if you just do general military service and not a skilled trade job you might still be desirable to get a government job at an increased pay rate or sought after for police or security firms due to your military training.

you can always go and work on a cruise ship as a waiter. actually there is an italian cruiseline MSC with ships around the world. you can easily go for it.

If you want to work for someone, the fees alone (visa filings, etc) will be thousands if dollars, plus airplane tickets - it won't be cheap just to get here. Then, depending on your visa type (some are restricting who you can work for, some aren't - which all translates into the cost), there is no way to make you work through the contract duration, so that at least the initial investment is paid through work. So, there won't be anything stopping you from walking away from the employer if you don't like something. This translates into lack of assurance that you will remain with the original person/family/company, yet this entity has to spend thousands just to get you in US. If the only labor you're performing is handy work, there are already people who can do this, and who have needed licensing/training (it's US, so everything is regulated, and you will require insurance as well).
